The recipe below is just a reference of how my dad always made fried rice at home. There are so many ways to be creative with this dish. You can change up the proportion of meat/veggie/egg/rice. You can also make any unlimited number of substitutions, such as omitting the shrimps or replacing bbq pork with ham. (I’ve… Continue reading Fried Rice
This is my Italian friend’s family recipe. I have had the finished product (super delicious) and can’t wait to try the recipe myself! One of the tricks is to use Savioardi Cookies instead of ladyfingers that a lot of generic recipes call for. You can find this at Italian specialty shops. We found the below in Chelsea Market’s Buon Italia.… Continue reading Tiramisu
This is a great side dish to complement any heavy foods. Use mini or persian cucumbers. I would avoid American cucumbers because the skin is too tough. Vinegar Marinated Cucumbers Serves 6 Ingredients: Cucumbers – 18 Sweet Mini Cucumbers (about 42 oz or 3 packs) Garlic – 6 cloves, minced Seasoned Rice Vinegar (if you do not… Continue reading Vinegar Marinated Cucumbers
Spaghetti alle vongole is hands down my favorite pasta dish so I tried to make it tonight and it was pretty easy! Just make sure not to add any salt since the clams are plenty salty. Enjoy! Ingredients: Clams – 2.5 pounds of manila clams or 12 to 18 littleneck clams Garlic – 5… Continue reading Spaghetti with Clams
I made this for my friend’s dinner party last night and was a huge hit. It’s a relatively simple recipe and can be plated beautifully for nice presentation and easy transportation. Enjoy and please share pics if you have other plating ideas. Enjoy! Some recipes on the blogosphere call for the use of whipping cream instead… Continue reading Strawberries and Cream
My favorite grilled / sauteed / over roasted peppers: Shishito, Pimientos de Padron and Pablano. From my experience, about 1 in 10 of these peppers are spicy (and they are SUPER spicy), so taste it before you serve it to your little one. The hardest part of the recipe is actually finding these peppers in… Continue reading Peppers: Shishito & Pimientos de Padron
I am sure there are a million different ways to make this, but this is likely one of the simplest ways. I can’t believe I waited so long to try to make this even though I always order it at restaurants! The sauce is really yummy and you can use it to dip bread or add… Continue reading Steamed Mussels in White Wine
If you need to feed a bunch of party people, there is nothing better than guac & chips. I made this for my friend’s Mexican themed party and was told that it was “so awesome” and “the best.” Yes, they were drunk, but I’ll take it. You don’t need any special tools but a few… Continue reading Guacamole
This is a traditional Chinese Cantonese dessert that you might have tried at dim sum places. It tastes a bit like coconut panna cotta with a more solid texture, a bit like pudding + jello, not too sweet and light enough to consume after a big dinner. Ok, it’s hard to describe so just try… Continue reading Split Pea Coconut Pudding (馬豆糕)
